Suze’s Musings – “Work Hard”

Suze’s Musings……

“Work hard!”
…the cheerful comment from the greeter at the front desk at the Y today when I checked in.
I smiled and said “Thank you – I will play full on!”
In the locker room I overheard a woman saying she was “pushing through”, I thought “move through”
Her friend replied “no pain, no gain”…I switched in my mind to ” stretching and feeling terrific!”

Listen to the words others use to describe what they are doing, so often they are harsh … from the non-supportive side of the line… and it matters.
In your mind, practice switching those non-supportive comments you overhear to the “upside” of the line, and you will discover your inner conversations will shift up and your perspective will change.

It is easy to do, and keeps your mind moving in the direction that supports your dreams!

Suze’s Musings: What is important to YOU?

What is important to YOU?

The phone rang on Saturday morning – my daughter’s number… I answered “Hi sweetie!” and was greeted with a deep, husky “Hi! Guess where I am?”

Since I knew my daughter wasn’t in New York, I squealed with excitement – my son, Dave, was home for a surprise visit! I had a super busy week planned, but time and space opened up when I remembered what is important…for me, that’s family.

This was taken at a fun breakfast out – great conversation with the once little guy, now a wonderful grown man, who is so special to me. Remember what is important to you, and let that guide your day. It is so easy to get caught up in the everyday do, do, do.

So, I know I am a bit behind on returning phone calls, and answering emails…oh well. What’s important to you?

What makes your heart sing, and a great big smile light up your day?

Give yourself permission to indulge in joy today!

Relationships, Really?

“I need to set some boundaries.”

It is a popular understanding in modern psychology, but I wonder how the concept of boundaries relates to the quantum philosophy of

“What we resist, persists?” (Alan Cohen).

Fences make good neighbours…yes…but they also require painting, repair and compliance – when the stray ball comes over the fence there is an annoyance of a violation of personal space.

What we resist, persists.

What about an open space, with intentional guidelines and understandings, spoken cleanly and clearly? Can you imagine living in that kind of a world? Building a solid relationship with yourself supports you in all your other relationships. It is less about boundaries and more about clarity – let’s just get clear with ourselves.

It’s way more fun, and way easier than setting boundaries.

Why are they so challenging? We all want to be connected, valued and loved – we search for it, yearn for it, and pray for it. Looking for love in all the wrong places sometimes we land in dysfunctional partnerships, experience family power struggles, and wonder if we will ever be truly understood.

The answer is yes. Realizing those close to us are a mirror for what is happening within us, today we’ll talk about how we can use those relationship challenges to come to a better understanding of ourselves.

Suze’s Musings… Overwhelm to ease!

Overwhelm, stretched to the max, running yourself ragged? Whatever is going on for you, however the “busyness” is manifesting in your world, there is one simple solution.
Self-care.
I know, you are already flat out, and balls are dropping. Adding one more thing to the mix – taking care of yourself – simply isn’t on your radar.
And yet it is the sure-fire, simple solution. It works. Everytime.
The reason there is “no time” for you is because you are leaving yourself to last. When everything else is finished, then you will take time for you…however the next thing you know it is midnight and you are collapsing into bed, exhausted, only to repeat the same soul destroying pattern tomorrow.
Do yourself, and the world a great big favour.
Do something for you FIRST thing in the morning. A cup of tea, a quick walk around your neighbourhood, 10 minutes of journaling, or on your yoga mat. Something that nurtures you, fills you up, and let’s every part of you know you matter.

Try it for one week. The first 10 minutes, just for you.

I’m excited to hear what happens for you!

Namaste,
Suze

Suze’s Musings – Spring Crocuses

Picture

Suze’s Musings…

Seemingly small and insignificant. An after dinner spring walk to pick crocuses 48 years ago. The next day my brother was born, and looking back I suspect the walk was more about supporting my mom in her last hours of pregnancy, but to this 7 year old it was an adventure to discover (and pick) these beautiful wild prairie crocuses. It is a spring ritual for me that I treasure – the coming of these delicate, seemingly small and insignificant flowers. I discovered they are heliotropic – that is they follow the sun. This adaptation allows them to thrive in harsh conditions – capturing as much light and warmth as possible in less than ideal growing conditions. They captivate me with their resilience, their beauty and their determination. They bring joy to my heart reminding me to find what nurtures me, especially when things are tough in my surroundings. Knowing the crocuses will appear has kept me smiling through late spring snowstorms – I know the snow is bringing much needed moisture to allow their growth. This year they appeared the day before my brother’s birthday, reminding me to attend to the seemingly small and insignificant coincidences, to mark the things that matter, to remember that what seems like an inconvenient storm may actually be the perfect nurturing of something very beautiful, very real, and very very special.

Namaste,

Suze
