Suze’s Musings: FEAR – Forgetting everything is alright!

Most of you know – I live in Calgary. And many of you would have heard, my beautiful city was hit with a devastating flood this past week. Over 100,000 people evacuated, 1 in 10 of our community displaced. At nearly 4,000 feet above sea level, “flood” is not really part of our thought pattern – we’ve had spring run-off flooding from the mountains before, but never like this. Two rivers meet in Calgary, the Bow River and the Elbow River (seriously – I couldn’t make that up, clearly the early explorers were very literal types who likely also named the mountains The Rockies…but I digress!), and both rivers overflowed their banks pouring into the city and FILLING up underpasses – our Saddledome had water up to the 10th row of seats – that is a LOT of water. Check out some of the pictures on the internet.

We’ve all wondered “What can I do?” and felt helpless and lost, knowing many were suffering…I remembered my own advice, thought about how I wanted to feel, and set out to do things that moved me in that direction. In the process I met a wonderful group of seniors who had been trapped downtown for 3 days without power or water. I got to be part of the team who helped them settle into and get set up in temporary shelter where they’ll be for the next month or so. I reached out to my network and asked for help – Thank you to all those who sent donations. You know who you are and I am blessed to have you in my world.

I am humbled by your generosity.

The downtown core was closed, and without power for several days – and my desk looks out over the city. Eerie, it has been like looking at Gotham City – no energy coming back, no lights…this evening I looked up from writing, trying to find the words to express the emotional roller-caster of the devastation of the water and the heartfelt response of the community…and I took this picture …

Fear: Forgetting Everything’s All Right

Today’s show – pre-taped last Friday as the rain pelted down, was aptly about dealing with Fear. My guest, singer-songwriter, Eileen McGann shares how she wrote her way through fear with her beautiful song “Wisdom Guide Me”. Listen in as we re-pattern fear – any fear – and call in next week when I will be back on air live continuing the same topic. While you are listening this Wednesday, I will be in the air, on my way to the Hay House “I Can Do It” Conference this weekend in Toronto – if you are there, look for me in the lobby handing out bookmarks and stop by for a hug and a hi!

Suze’s Musings – Ahhhh….Unplugged

Unplugged. Ah – the bliss of it. The constant information flow, the product of modern technology was designed to make life easier. However I often find it, becomes an incessant demand on my energy, time and available resources.

I used to have one day a week that was sacrosanct – completely unplugged, and then that gift eroded as I found myself “trying to catch up” to the increasing load of email, voice-mail and Facebook. All designed to help me connect – yet last week I could feel the sneakiness of overwhelm intruding and I decided to wake up where there are no beeps, no Instant Messaging, no dinging reminders of something else needing my focus.

So I went to the lake, where the cell coverage is iffy and unplugged. The sound of the waves lapping the shore and the wind in the trees is a balm to my soul. For 4 days I was sleeping when tired, eating when hungry, laughing a lot, and renewing…and remembering the importance of being “unplugged”.

For me, it is a necessity. I am recommitting to being available only to my thoughts, needs and desires one day a week. I’ve also begun to plan a series of 4 day “non-electronic” times through out the summer…and I am putting “unplugged” time into my daily way of being.

The feeling of peace and gratitude emanating from my soul is delicious. And the creative juices are flowing…

This week’s radio show: Topic: Finding (and Raising) Your Voice

Show Guest: Kira Small

The constant need to connect with others has actually stolen the natural ability to connect with ourselves. Just being alone with your own thoughts is an unusual luxury. How do we imagine we can find our voice if we aren’t listening to our quiet inner voice? How can our voice emerge when we are constantly looking outside of ourselves for input? Many of us only know our own voice when it explodes in anger or frustration, but everyone has a voice that comes from the heart, a voice that speaks with passion. Connect to your own inner wisdom and join my conversation with songwriter Kira Small www.kirasmall.com whose song “I Will Raise My Voice” will be profiled on this week’s show.

Suze’s Musings – “Work Hard”

Suze’s Musings……

“Work hard!”
…the cheerful comment from the greeter at the front desk at the Y today when I checked in.
I smiled and said “Thank you – I will play full on!”
In the locker room I overheard a woman saying she was “pushing through”, I thought “move through”
Her friend replied “no pain, no gain”…I switched in my mind to ” stretching and feeling terrific!”

Listen to the words others use to describe what they are doing, so often they are harsh … from the non-supportive side of the line… and it matters.
In your mind, practice switching those non-supportive comments you overhear to the “upside” of the line, and you will discover your inner conversations will shift up and your perspective will change.

It is easy to do, and keeps your mind moving in the direction that supports your dreams!

This week’s radio show:
Topic: Who are you? Who are you really?
How you answer these questions will let you know if your Inner Critic or your Inner Coach is running your life.
Rather than focusing on your shortcomings or downfalls
(…we all have them!)
…learn to focus on and build upon your strengths.
We all have those as well!
Today Suze helps you focus on who you really are, at your best, how to focus your mind there and then expand that.

Call in (toll-free) and re-pattern live with Suze, and receive 40% reduction in a personal coaching session following the show.

Suze’s Musings: What is important to YOU?

What is important to YOU?

The phone rang on Saturday morning – my daughter’s number… I answered “Hi sweetie!” and was greeted with a deep, husky “Hi! Guess where I am?”

Since I knew my daughter wasn’t in New York, I squealed with excitement – my son, Dave, was home for a surprise visit! I had a super busy week planned, but time and space opened up when I remembered what is important…for me, that’s family.

This was taken at a fun breakfast out – great conversation with the once little guy, now a wonderful grown man, who is so special to me. Remember what is important to you, and let that guide your day. It is so easy to get caught up in the everyday do, do, do.

So, I know I am a bit behind on returning phone calls, and answering emails…oh well. What’s important to you?

What makes your heart sing, and a great big smile light up your day?

Give yourself permission to indulge in joy today!

Suze
