Healthier, Kinder and More Loving

Today I swam a mile in 1:21:23!

Okay – that’s one hour, 21 minutes and 23 seconds – from when I left my desk until I was back again! Sixty-four lengths. YES!

I’m feeling really capable, competent, and healthy. With exercise I feel better, and I am able to bring more to my relationships, my family and my work!

The Olympics are on and it’s inspiring to watch these dedicated, committed, and highly focused individuals and teams go after their dreams. I could compare myself to Michael Phelps, and come up short. No Olympic medals for me. I’d feel “less than” or “not good enough”. I’ve done that in the past by comparing myself to others…

Or I can recognize that in my own way I have the ability to make my dreams come true and live the life I choose. I’m sure you would agree that it makes no sense to compare my swim time this morning with that of the world’s most decorated Olympic athlete.

Actually, it doesn’t make sense to compare ourselves to anyone else – Olympian or otherwise. Each of us is unique and has special gifts, talents, and capabilities to contribute to our families and communities.

  • I forgive myself for believing I need to compare myself to others.
  • I give myself permission to recognize and build on my unique strengths and capabilities and build my best life.
  • I choose to stop comparing myself to others and focus on creating my own best life!
  • I’m free to make the best contribution I can in ways that support me.
  • I contributed to creating my best life today when I
  • With focus, dedication, and commitment I contribute in unique ways and am creating what I want in my life.

This week I am swimming further and stronger than I was this time last year – that’s a sensible comparison! My goal is to continue building on my strengths and swim more regularly – that’s achievable! Our comparisons usually don’t make sense. My 1 mile time included driving from home to the pool, swimming, showering, and returning home! I know Michael doesn’t count the time it takes to wash HIS hair ???? Seriously – there are always others contingencies to take into account when we compare ourselves to others. I can use comparison favorably to support myself when I compare where I am right now to where I want to be, and make a plan.

My goal: do my 64 lengths from leaving my desk to returning to my desk, (traffic lights and washing my hair included) in 1:15:00 or better. Doable. Worthy goal. I am capable of shaving 6 minutes and 23 seconds off my current best time with regular, committed practice.
What doable worthy goal will you set for yourself? One of my mentors spoke about 1% better today than yesterday. We each can do that in some area of our lives, and that’s how your dreams are created. One small shift daily.

Each of us, being the best that we can makes this world a better place to be. And…congratulations to all of the Olympic athletes for committing to the Olympic motto of “Faster, Higher, Stronger”. What’s your motto? I’m considering “Healthier, Kinder and More Loving” for mine!

Claim Where You’re Going

Commencement, graduation, the completion of a school grade or a chapter in your life. It’s all the same – letting go of the old, familiar and comfortable way and stepping into the unknown can be exciting, and a bit uncomfortable! If you’ve been thinking about stepping out of old patterns, and could use some support to grow into who you really are,  I encourage you to join me for the complimentary on-line Inner Critic to Inner Coach seminar July 13 – you can find the details here: www.critic2coach.ca
Meanwhile, here’s a true story (most of mine are ;-)) about letting go of the old and stepping fully into the new!
The day after his last day of Grade 1, I asked my grandson “What grade are you in?” He replied, “I’m going into Grade 2!”
I suggested he could drop the “going into” and just say “I’m in Grade 2!”!
He looked at me in a puzzled way, and then I explained to him that if there were school tomorrow (which there isn’t and he’s glad of!), he would be in Grade 2.
He’s completed Grade 1 so I encouraged him to say “I’m in Grade 2!”
Often when we have completed something and are embarking on something new, we don’t truly step into owning it until we have the evidence clearly in front of us.
My grandson is a Grade 2 student. At his school he is on the list for Grade 2. Just because it hasn’t started yet he felt he couldn’t define himself that way.
What’s on your list that will manifest more quickly by you stepping fully into claiming it?
My grandson’s eyes lit up when he tried on “I’m in Grade 2”! Find the light in your eyes when you claim who you really are. You’ll discover it becomes more real and therefore it will manifest more quickly.
Kids don’t need to manifest September easily or quickly, they just need to enjoy summer – and we can all take a lesson from that as well. Claim where you’re going and then thoroughly enjoy the space between here and there!
  • I forgive myself for believing I need to stay stuck in the old pattern.
  • I give myself permission to acknowledge where I’m headed and claim it.
  • I can keep myself in a holding pattern or I can step into where I’m headed. I choose to step into who I really am and create it!
  • I am free to step fully into who I am today by…
  • I know what it feels like to acknowledge and claim who I really am and where I am headed, I did it when I…
  • I am claiming who I really am and my eyes are lighting up! I’m beginning my next “grade” NOW!
Ready for your “next chapter”? Join me for Inner Critic to Inner Coach. Upcoming dates and locations are listed here. It’s my gift to you – complimentary!
Remember how summer holidays felt when you were a kid?
Enjoy these beautiful summer days and imagine where you’d like to be in September! Begin by claiming it today!

Mom’s the word!

For everyone who is a mom, or has a mom… that pretty much covers everyone…
Your mom did the best she knew how. For some it was brilliant, and for others it may not have seemed perfect to you at the time, but who you are now began with your mom. Physically, emotionally, and spiritually, she was your first connection with life as you know it. Whether your relationship with your mom is fabulous, or fraught with challenges, healing any of the old hurts that are lingering or deepening your appreciation for her impact on your life will free you to be an even better version of yourself. During this week that marks Mother’s Day, celebrate the BEST your mom gave you, and re-pattern the “other stuff.” See it all – the good, the bad, the confusing and the confirming – as the opportunity she gave you, (and you accepted!) to grow into the unique and wonderful individual you are today.
  • I forgive myself for believing I need to carry any of those old hurts any longer.
  • I give myself permission to recognize everything mom said or did was a catalyst for me to become the best version of myself I can possibly create!
  • I choose to celebrate all the gifts my Mom gave me, and reinforce them in myself.
  • She gave me life – I freely honour her gifts and make the most of my life!
  • My mom showed me the importance of being ____________ , _____________ and ___________, and I am grateful I was smart enough to adopt them as my way of BE-ing!
  • I am ____________, _______ and _____________. Mom did her very best and I honour both of us by Being my best.

Here’s a special Mother’s Day gift for you to enjoy and pass along… Jeffery Starker’s new music video.

Encouraging you to bring your very best to your life. Hug a mom…and be your own “best mom”… only you know can what you need. Moms operate on guesswork and intuition – they do their best, and then it is up to each of us.
